About me

Sergey S. Shirin, associate professor at the Department of International Humanitarian Relations, School of International Relations, St. Petersburg State University.

Born Feb. 24, 1981 in Novgorod. In 2003, graduated from the School of International Relations of St. Petersburg State University, specializing in International Relations (specialization "International academic and cultural contacts"). In 2006, graduated from the graduate school of the School of International Relations of St. Petersburg State University majoring in Political problems of international relations and global development. Thesis - "The role of foreign policy factors in the forming of academic knowledge about American culture in the UK and Germany"

In 2004, certified in Advanced Networking Technologies at the National Institute of Information Technology in New Delhi (India). In 2006, took short-term training programs on "Innovative educational technology" at St. Petersburg State University, and on "Innovative Technologies in Higher Education" at the University of Twente (the Netherlands). In 2006-2007, took the course "Introduction to HTML" at the "Internet-university of Computer Science", as well as short-term training course on educational IT-innovations at Stanford University (USA).

Since September 2004, I work at the St. Petersburg State University. Currently I deliver lectures in courses "New information technologies in the international system (the Internet)", "International Protection of Intellectual Property",  and "Cultural Studies", give seminar lessons on the course "Main problems and prospects of international cultural and academic exchanges" for undergraduate students of the program "International Relations", deliver lectures in courses "New information technologies in the international system (the Internet)" and "Modern information systems and international relations" for the students of the program "Applied information science for international relations", give lectures and seminar lessons in the course "People's diplomacy" for graduate students of the MA program "International Humanitarian Relations",  have worked out the course "New information technologies in Russia" for the MA program "Russian Studies". 

I speak Russian, German and English.

Spheres of academic interests: 
- innovations in international academic cooperation, 
- political processes, systems and relations on the WWW.

I have participated in several international and all-Russian academic and practical conferences in recent years, among which the main are

In 2009, I participated in the BFUG Mobility Coordination Group.
